Jennifer’s Background

Born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Cape Breton University before moving to Alberta in 2009 to work in the oil industry. She earned valuable personal and professional experience while living out west, from working on-site North of Fort McMurray, to contributing to corporate efforts in downtown Calgary, to taking on the role of a stay-at-home parent.

Jennifer returned to Nova Scotia in 2015, when she enrolled in the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. While in law school, Jennifer researched the right to abortion funding in the Global South, completed a competitive summer placement with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, and spent the summer between her second and third year working for a full-service Nova Scotia law firm. Jennifer spent her final semester of law school working at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic, where she realized her true passion for advocacy—particularly on behalf of the most vulnerable members of society.

Jennifer articled with Patterson Law in Halifax and was hired back as an associate following her admittance to the bar in June 2019. Her practice was initially comprised of family and criminal law matters but has been focused exclusively on criminal defence since early 2020.
